Compulsive Reading

But of course, we WILL have him <3

The loveliest cat

“Thanks for the crazy texts. Who is he then?” MindReader says to me over a lunchtime Starbucks.

“The One.”

“Oh, thanks.” MindReader sips his caramel latte.

“He’s called Benny Bear. He’s between two and four. He’s needy. He’s neutered. He’s ginger. I love him I love him I love him,” I say.

“Can we have him?”

I shrug. “If someone else can home him before Christmas they will have to accept. But I have emailed them offering to pay for his boarding fees.”

Boarding fees?”

“He lives with a foster family at the moment. So if I pay I can reserve him for when I want. If they say yes.” I bounce excitedly in my chair and lick the cream off the top of my hot chocolate.

“But… don’t I get a say?” MindReader says.

“I LOVE him,” I say. I pick up my phone and show MindReader the picture.

“Meh,” MindReader says, putting my phone down again. “Billygean, how many things have you LOVED?”

“What?”

“You have loved: bags, coats, shoes, Ikea lights, lots of dresses, tops, phones, hair accessories…”

“This is different. He is my soulmate,” I say.

“Your soul is overly mated.”

“Ha.” I pick up my phone and begin reading the description of Benny Bear.  “We estimate Benny Bear to be between 2 and 4 years old. He is a large cat but he is the friendliest, most loving cat…”

MindReader looks at the picture again. “He is big.”

“Big is good,” I say. “It means usually that they’re sedentary, not manic. Less likely to scratch sofa.”

“Hmm.”

MindReader carries on reading the description. “‘Benny Bear is an extremely confident cat.’ What the hell does ‘extremely confident’ mean?” he says.

“It means that he trusts people soon! Look – it says, he is extremely confident and he warms to -”

“I think ‘extremely confident’ is a very interesting term.”

I start laughing.

“Seriously,” MindReader says. He spends a few hilarious minutes acting out his interpretation of a confident cat. He drums his fingers on the table. He makes menancing faces. He squares up to me and points to his mouth. He knocks, hard, on imaginary doors, demanding salmon in an Estuary accent.

“Do we really want an extremely confident, extremely big cat?” MindReader eventually says. “He’ll be a bloody megalomaniac!”

Have you seen all the Simon’s Cat videos on YouTube? Well worth a watch if you haven’t seen them . . .
PS He looks lovely! :o )

Er, I’m with Mindreader on this one. Big is OK, but “extremely confident” is mildly concerning… Also in general I’m not a ginger cat person, although he would match MR nicely.

Also, I would like to draw your attention to this: http://thefluffingtonpost.com/

Ha, thank you for the fluffington post!!

So when will you get your rabbit?

Well, we are taking next week off work to hopefully finish redecorating the house (kitchen and music room), and the plan was to get one when we’ve finished the house, so hopefully reasonably soon! Not before Christmas though I don’t think because we’d need to get all the bits and pieces ready, especially as it will probably live indoors over the winter.
